LOVINGSTON, Va. (AP) - A trial date is set for a Nelson County woman accused of setting a fatal house fire in 2009. Linda Campbell Blackwell is charged with felony murder and arson. She also is charged with arson and obtaining money by false pretenses stemming from two other house fires on the same property in 2012 and 2013.
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The Peace Corps says Virginia ranks 10th among states in the number of people who volunteer to serve. The program currently has 267 Virginia residents. California led the nation with 973 residents currently in the program. Virginia ranked 9th last year.
ELLISTON, Va. (AP) - A Montgomery County man is dead after a mobile home collapsed on him as he was attempting to move it. Police tell media outlets that emergency responders found the man pinned under the mobile home. He was pronounced dead at the scene yesterday in Elliston.
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Attorneys for a former University of Virginia lacrosse player are seeking a new trial on charges he killed his ex-girlfriend in 2010. The Court of Appeals of Virginia is scheduled to hear today from attorneys for George Huguely V and the state. Huguely was convicted in February 2012 in the beating death of 22-year-old Yeardley Love.
