Fayette County couple charged with child endangerment

MOUNT HOPE, WV (WVNS) -- Deputies with the Fayette County Sheriff's Office were serving warrants on Friday, Feb. 9, 2018 for Nicole Riser, 22, of Fayetteville and Brandon Clark, 21, of Mount Hope.  Investigators found the couple in a camper located at a home in Mount Hope.

While deputies were serving the warrants, they found Riser's three-year-old sleeping on blankets within reach of an undisclosed amount of heroin and drug paraphernalia.  Riser and Clark were arrested and charged with gross child neglect creating risk of injury and possession of heroin.  The child was transferred to the custody of a grandparent.  The two are also facing misdemeanor's for the original warrants.  Those are for obstruction and conspiracy.

"Doing drugs and harming yourself is one thing, but exposing your baby to it is another," said Sheriff Mike Fridley.  "It's not just the actual drugs that are dangerous for the kids, it's the lifestyle, atmosphere and affiliations that are equally as bad."

Clark and Riser are being held in the Southern Regional Jail  Their bonds are set at $10,000 each.  Child Protective Services has also been called in to begin an investigation.
