Scarbro man arrested for using counterfeit money

GLEN JEAN, W. Va. (WVNS) -- A Scarbro man is facing criminal charged for using counterfeit money at a local restaurant.

Jason Paul Canaday, 34 of Scarbro, is charged with possession of counterfeit with intent to utter and unauthorized currency.

On Sunday, December 24, Deputies with the Fayette County Sheriff's Department responded to The Cold Spot in Glen Jean.  There, the cashier told deputies Canaday came into the restaurant to "pretend" gamble and asked one of the cashier's for change for a $10 bill.

Shortly after Canaday left, the cashier realized the $10 was fake.  When deputies arrived, they went to a nearby store to test the $10 bill, which was indeed counterfeit.

Canaday is being held in the Southern Regional Jail on a $5,000 bond.
