Woman arrested after dogs found living in deplorable conditions, puppies dead

SCARBRO, W. Va. (WVNS) — A Fayette County woman is facing charges after deputies said they found several dogs living in deplorable conditions along with dead puppies.

Deputies arrested and charged Amanda Jones, 40, of Scarbro.

Deputies said they were called to a home on Scarbro Road in Whipple to investigate an animal cruelty complaint.

There, they found two adult dogs and three puppies living in deplorable conditions. Two puppies were found dead. They also said the mother was on a tight leash that was wrapped around a tree with 12 inches of slack.

The dogs reportedly had no shelter, food or waters. Deputies said the animals were covered in mud and surrounded by trash.

All of the dogs were taken by Animal Control.

Amanda Jones is charged with seven counts of Cruelty to Animals. She was arraigned by the Fayette County Magistrates Office where her bond was set at $7,500.00.

"Once again a tragic case of inexcusable neglect to animals" says Sheriff Fridley.  "Without the call someone made in concern over the dogs,  the whole group would have likely not survived".

This incident remains under investigation by Deputy First Class S.K. Neal of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department.
