McDowell County Food Bank in Desperate Shortage

KIMBALL, W.Va (WVNS) -- As of December 13, 2017, Five Loaves and Two Fish Food Bank in Kimball is low in both food and personal care supplies.  Around 16,000 people, which makes up more than 82-percent of McDowell County's population, routinely come to the center for help.  Those who line up to receive supplies fear the worst, even if volunteers are doing everything they can.

"They're so afraid they're going to lose their place in line or they're not going to have enough food," said director Linda McKinney.  "Any time we don't have enough food, we go back and start scrounging."

Five Loaves and Two Fishes handles more than 32,000 pounds of food every month.
