LATEST: Murder case will go to the grand jury

A preliminary hearing for a man accused of murder has been waived, that is according to Mercer County Prosecuting Attorney, George Sitler.  Joseph Wellman is charged with the death of Roderick Quincy on Jan. 3, 2018 in Bluefield.

The case against Wellman will now go before the next session of the Mercer County grand jury.

UPDATE: Police said on Thursday that the victim, who was shot in the head in Wednesday's shooting in Bluefield, has died.

Prosecutors said charges will be upgraded for the suspects.

Police said Joseph Wellman and Juwan Rowe were charged in connection to the shooting Wednesday morning that happened off of Bluefield Avenue. The two men are accused of shooting Roderick Quincy, who is reportedly from Baltimore, MD.  Witnesses told police Quincy and two other men met up with the suspects for a drug deal, but instead both men pulled out guns and attempted to rob them. One of the witnesses told police during the robbery he heard a gunshot and saw Quincy was shot.

Wellman and Rowe were charged with malicious wounding and first-degree armed robbery.

The criminal complaint states the suspects robbed then men in the car and ran. Investigators said the suspects were found Wednesday evening in Beckley.

Prosecutors tell 59News Rowe and Wellman should be arraigned on their new charges in the next few days.

Rowe and Wellman are currently being held in the Southern Regional Jail on a 500 thousand dollar bond.

BLUEFIELD, W. Va. (WVNS) -- A shooting in Bluefield on Wednesday, January 3 led to the arrest of two people,  according to Bluefield Police Chief, Dennis Dillow. 

Police said Joseph Wellman and Juwan Rowe were charged in connection to a shooting Wednesday morning that happened off of Bluefield Avenue.

The two men are accused of shooting Roderick Quincy, who is reportedly from Baltimore, MD. Police said the victim was shot in the head and is now on life support at a hospital in Charleston.

Wellman and Rowe were charged with malicious wounding and first-degree armed robbery.

Investigators said the suspects were found Wednesday evening in Beckley. They are currently being held in the Southern Regional Jail.
