NEW DETAILS in fatal accident on I-77


GHENT, W. Va. (WVNS)-- State Troopers are releasing new information in the fatal accident on I-77. 

A black Chevrolet car was traveling southbound on I-77 near the Ghent exit around 5:30 p.m. when it crossed the median and onto the northbound where it hit a rock cliff. 

Troopers tell 59 News the passenger of the car died in the crash and the driver was taken to Raleigh General Hospital. 

According to troopers, no names will be released at this time. The crash is still under investigation. 

UPDATE 4/24 8:30 P.M.

One southbound lane is now closed on I-77 following a fatal accident near Mile Marker 26.


Two northbound lanes are closed on I-77 after a fatal vehicle accident.

The accident occurred around Mile Marker 26 near the Ghent Exit on the turnpike. One other person was transported to the hospital.

Turnpike Police, Ghent EMS, Ghent Volunteer Fire Department, Jan Care Ambulance and Best Ambulance responded to the scene.
