Got Resolutions? Locals Have Tips to Keep Them Intact

BECKLEY, W.Va (WVNS) -- For everyone around the world, a new year means a new start, especially with those resolutions.  But of course, they are not as always what it is cracked up to be.

"They get broken 90% of the time," said Meadow Bridge resident Michele Neely. "They have good intentions."

So for 2018, people say to keep two things in mind when setting your own resolutions, whether it's something new or continuing an old routine.

"(I) just try to keep up what I've been doing in the gym (and) my diet... for a few years now," said Shady Spring resident Bill Waters.

Residents say first and foremost - set a goal that is both within your reach and measured in numbers.

"Don't try to promise something that you just can't accomplish," Waters said.

"Set a goal that's measurable and one that you can achieve without going crazy," said Daniels resident Kelsey Knoops. "If you want to lose weight, then say you just want to lose ten pounds - not you're just going to lose 100 pounds."

Knoops says having a persistent attitude to achieve that goal is more important.

"Willpower is, to me, the only thing that gets a goal through," Knoops said. "If you don't have willpower and determination, you will never succeed."
