LATEST: Dry Creek shooting began with a fight between 4 people

2:30 p.m. Friday, Dec.22, 2017 UPDATE:

There were four people involved in an early morning fight that sent one woman to the hospital and another woman to jail. Deputies said Samantha Burnside was hit by gunfire after a man opened fire during the fight.

The man, Jerry James Dickens, was taken to the Raleigh County Sheriff's Office for questioning.  No charges have been filed against him at this time. 

Another woman, Carolyn Asbury was arrested on charges unrelated to the shooting. Investigators said Ms. Asbury tried to bite and hit deputies who were investigating the shooting.

The incident is still under investigation.


DRY CREEK, W. Va. (WVNS) -- Hours after a shooting in Raleigh County, deputies were still on the scene.  Investigators are searching for clues on what may have led a man to shoot a woman at around 3:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 22, 2017.

The victim was flown to the hospital with a single gunshot wound.  She was reported in critical condition.  Her name has not been released.

Deputies said the suspected shooter is in custody, but charges have not yet been filed in the case.  There is now word on the suspects identity.  Investigators believe this is an isolated incident.


ORIGINAL STORY: One person was flown to the hospital after a shooting early Friday morning. 

Dispatchers said the call came in around 3:30 am at a home on Circle Drive in the Dry Creek area of Raleigh County. 

One person was transported to the hospital but their condition is unknown at this time. 

Raleigh County Deputies, EMS crews and Trap Hill Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene. 

Dispatchers said as of 7:45 Friday morning, deputies are still on scene investigating.
