Wyoming County Toy Fund helps thousands of children and families

NEW RICHMOND, W.Va (WVNS) — On December 17, 2017, countless volunteers donated their time to the Wyoming County Toy Fund, where they gave out donated toys and warm clothing to more than 1500 children and their families.

"We always have families in Wyoming County and families throughout America that have heard about us and send in donations," President Todd Houck said.

Since its beginnings in 1999, corporate sponsors usually rack in the financial donations to make it happen. But as of recent, that has not been the case.

For the last three years, it's been a local business that's been bringing in the bucks to buy toys for their neighbors in need.  Wagon Wheel ATV Resort co-owner, Jennifer Huggins, is taking in all the effort that has paid off for the event her business sponsors.

"It's really a process," Huggins said. "It's not just two or three days of an event - it's months of preparation. It's just exciting to see everyone here and enjoying themselves."

For everyone involved, Christmas is the holiday that creates special memories that last a lifetime, especially with those close to them.

"It's your best memory as a kid," Houck said. "It's your best memory as an adult. This is part of that."

With the help of Wagon Wheel ATV Resort, the toy fund raised more than $11,000 towards purchasing toys and warm clothing throughout the year.
