Sexual assault victim escapes from her captor and calls for help

BEARTOWN, W. Va. (WVNS)-- A Mercer County man faces kidnapping, sexual assault and malicious wounding charges after holding a woman hostage for nearly a week. 

A woman told deputies John Robert Mullins, 39 of Matoaka, beat, strangled and sexually assaulted her repeatedly at a home in Beartown in Wyoming County. According to deputies the woman was held from December 13 to December 18. After several attempts to get away, she was finally able to escape and call for help at a neighbor's home. 

Mullins was arrested on December 19 and faces sexual assault,  kidnapping and malicious wounding. He remains in the Southern Regional Jail on $50,000 bond.

The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment.  Her name is not being released.
