8th grader killed in Wyoming County house fire

A community in Wyoming County is mourning the loss of an eighth grade student after they were killed in a house fire. 

The Principal of Huff Consolidated, Carolyn Hatfield, said eighth grader Hunter Paynter has died.

According to Chief Jimmy White with the Wyoming County Sheriff's Department, the fire happened around 5:00 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017 at a house in North Spring, Wyoming County. 

Hanover Fire Chief, Tracy Cline, said home was destroyed by the time fire crews got to the scene. 

Five people had to be taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation and one person had to be taken to a hospital in Pittsburgh for his injuries. 

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
