Concord University Men Fall in Home Opener to Bluefield State

-  The Concord University Mountain Lions suffered their first loss of the 2017-18 season in their home opener, 87-83, to the Bluefield State Big Blues. 

 Concord jumped out to a commanding lead in the first 8 minutes of the game, but they saw their lead fall to only six points at the half. Bluefield State went on a late run in the final 10 minutes of the game. They not only closed the gap, but took the lead. Concord, down by three, with 14 seconds remaining, had an opportunity to tie, but Trey Radcliffe's three-pointer was off the mark. Bluefield State would control the rebound, get fouled, make a free throw, and win it, 87-83.

Concord University (2-1) was lead offensively by Junior guard Tommy Bolte, who scored a game-high 29 points, despite not playing in the final 12 minutes of the game.

 Bluefield State College (2-0) had three players in double-figures. Shawn Duhon lead the Big Blues with 26 points, 8 rebounds. Korey Williams added 23 points, 4 assists. Greg Purnell rounds out the team's double-figure scorers with 15, adding 6 rebounds, 4 assists.

 Next up for Bluefield, they'll travel to Georgia Southern (4-0) Thursday night for a matchup with the Eagles in the Gulf Coast Showcase. Concord will head to Notre Dame College to begin Mountain East Conference play on Saturday.
