Athens, WV, USA - On Wednesday Night, the Concord University Women's Basketball team played in their home opener at the Carter Center in Athens. The Mountain Lions defeated Bluefield State College 108-70.
Concord University (2-1) jumped out to an early 28-11 advantage at the end of the first quarter, lead by Senior guard Danielle Catron and her barrage of three-pointers. Catron finished the night with 23 points, going 5 of 6 from long range. Sophomore Madison May added 21 points off the bench for the Mountain Lions; She went 9-9 from the FT line.
Bluefield State College (0-3) was lead offensively by Lyric Hampton, 14 points. Lauryn Hatfield added 12 points, Rosalie Pozo had 11.
The Mountain Lions shot 50.7% from the field for the first time since February 9th, 2017 against West Liberty. It's the first time Concord scored 100+ since December 4th, 2017 (Glenville State).
Concord will open up their Mountain East Conference schedule this Saturday when the visit Notre Dame. Tip off is set for 2:00 p.m.
