Oak Hill Travels to Fayetteville for a Huge Fayette County Football Rivalry

It's really difficult to explain how BIG of a night it's going to be in Fayetteville this Friday. The undefeated Oak Hill Red Devils (4-0) travel north to battle the also undefeated Fayetteville Pirates (4-0) on Friday September 22nd at 7:30 at Fletcher Arritt Stadium.

As if two undefeated rivals wasn't enough, the game is also Homecoming Night for Fayetteville High School. It's been a long time since that has happened.

Last season the two teams renewed their football rivalry with the Red Devils dropping down to Class AA. Fayetteville came out on top 56-0 at John P. Duda Stadium in Oak Hill.

"I played in this rivalry as a player and now I've coached in it," said Oak Hill Head Football Coach Jason Blankenship. "They got us pretty good last year and we remember that. It was tough to see your kids lose a game like that to Fayetteville and to see them celebrate on our own field. So, we have some motivation to go to Fayetteville and try to get this win this week."

Blankenship says their strategy will key on keeping Fayetteville running back Jordan Dempsey in check. They want to keep the ball out of his hands as much as possible. Dempsey has lead the Pirates this season with 12 total touchdowns and was a key player in Fayetteville's win at Oak Hill last season.

Fayetteville Head Coach David Moneypenny said they have a lot of respect for their Fayette County rivals, and he expects this game to be one of the most important on their schedule this season.

"We're fans of Oak Hill! We want them to go 9-1," Moneypenny said. "But it's going to be an uphill game for us and I just hope we play well."

Kick off is set for 7:30, and both coaches say if you're planning to come out for the game, get there early, because it'll be a long walk to the stadium if you don't find a good parking spot.
