MSU employee prepares for Boston Marathon, Willard headed for Athens

Story by Mike Levin

Emily Chaney has been getting ready to run the Boston marathon by training around the streets of Beckley and also in Oak Hill where she lives.

She's sponsored by the Knoxville Track Club Runners Market in her home state of Tennessee, and is a part of a team of runners who will all be running in Boston.

Emily moved to Fayette County a few years ago after graduating from East Tennessee State, and came here for rafting and mountain biking. She qualified for the Boston Marathon after running Phoenix a few months ago.

Cory Willard is expected to officially decide on his college destination for next year on Tuesday.

The champion of last weekend's Scott Brown Memorial Boys Three Point Shoot-Out will be headed for Concord on a full basketball scholarship.

Cory is a three sport athlete at Wyoming East, between football, basketball and baseball, but in Athens, he'll just do hoops.

Playing for Steve Cox and the Mountain Lions while getting a good education, that's what Cory wanted. "The full ride, when he offered that to me, my eyes lit up like Christmas again. We're not a wealthy family, we make good money, we get by, we live a great life. To have a full ride is just a blessing."
