Officials talked about expanding a state requirement.
BECKLEY- -- Fire safety was the topic of discussion at a public hearing in Beckley, Friday.
Fire and electrical safety advocates from across the state came together for the meeting.
On the agenda: expanding the state's requirement for an electronic circuit breaker designed to prevent home electrical fires.
The National Fire Protection Association, the Fire Marshals Association and the Electrical Safety Foundation were there for the event.
Officials want the West Virginia State Fire Commission to expand the use of these arc fault circuit breakers.
They say it's a move that would make all new homes built in West Virginia among the safest in the U.S. from electrical fires.
