MORGANTOWN -- The Major League Baseball Draft began Tuesday and will conclude Thursday. It is expected that several Mountaineers will be taken in the draft. Two of them were picked on Wednesday.
Sophomore Catcher Tobias Streich is a fifth round pick of the Minnesota Twins.
Streich batted .322 with 6 homeruns and 57 RBI this season. He is on the Johnny Bench Award Watch List and was named to the All Big East First Team.
Streich says he will leave WVU early to pursue his professional career with the Twins and should find out where he will begin that professional career next week.
Vince Belnome was also taken in the draft. Belnome was a 28th round pick by the San Diego Padres.
He played second base in his college career until this year when he served as the designated hitter.
Belnome set a school record with a six hit game with 9 RBI against Cincinnati earlier this season.
He hit .412 with nine home runs and a school record 84 RBI this season.
