Roger Mason delivers positive message to the kids.
By Alicia Suka
BECKLEY -- An NBA player visits the dozens of kids attending a Raleigh County basketball camp. Tamar Slay's summer basketball camp hosts Roger Mason of the San Antonio Spurs.
It's being held this week at Park Middle School in Beckley.
Mason spent some time, along with Tamar Slay, teaching the fundamentals of basketball, like dribbling and shooting.
But the professional players say character tops the list of "do's" when it comes to success.
"Before anything can happen positively, they've got to get their education. I like to stress to these kids how important school is, how important it is to listen to your coaches and your parents and really to let that be the foundation. Any pointers I can give on shooting or dribbling, I want to do that too," said Mason.
This is the second year for the Tamar Slay Summer Basketball camp.
Slay played high school basketball at Woodrow Wilson.
He's played in the NBA and is now playing in Europe.
The camp will continue through the rest of the week.
