Good weather equals good crops.

BECKLEY -- David Richmond, a WVU Extension Agent says summer weather has been tough for farmers, but recent weather patterns are helping.

Richmond encourages everyone to eat local and support nearby farmers. By supporting our local crop, Richmond says you are supporting the local economy.

Another benefit Richmond mentions is the quality of the crop. He says by purchasing from a local farmer you are guarenteed that the crop is fresh out of the ground or straight off the vine.

"We are finally getting some weather to where you know we are getting the buyers out to buy all of our local produce. Plus, it's helpful for our farmers," said Richmond.

Come visit some farmers around here, Tazewell County. I don't think a changing weather condition is going to save our gardens, especially the tomatoes. Seems the blight, or smudge or whatever jungle-inspired disease has hit the goods, it doesn't look like we can eke out a good crop, now. It's moved into potatoes and cukes now. Thankfully beans are doing great though.

How about doing a little follow-up piece to what gardens are really like here in SW Va? thanks.
