BECKLEY -- A Scarbro man reportedly confessed to more than 50 breaking and entering cases.
A string of burglaries running through three counties and spanning back more than 11 months comes to an end.
William Wriston, 50, is facing multiple counts of breaking and entering charges.
He's being held in the Southern Regional Jail with bond is set at $150,000.
Police said Wriston was caught in action at Sparton Sporting Goods on Appalachian Drive in Beckley Sunday night.
Police said they were running surveillance on Wriston after he was spotted by an off-duty police Oak Hill Police officer.
"Just was paying attention to some of the things that he had learned in the past about these B and Es and he picked up on it, got the ball rolling," said Mike Whisman, Oak Hill Police Chief.
"I'm just glad to see a case like this where agencies come together for a common goal and put the person behind bars because I believe that's what the public expects," said Dave Allard, Beckley Police Detective.
Police say in most of the cases, Wriston used a tool to remove a locking cylinder to get into the businesses. He faces charges in Raleigh, Fayette and Kanawha Counties.
Police say he has an extensive criminal history that involves crimes in five states.
