Frontier Communications Votes to Buy Verizon Land Lines

Frontier Communications shareholders have agreed on a deal with Verizon.

CHARLESTON -- Frontier Communications has approved a deal with Verizon.

Shareholders of Connecticut-based Frontier shareholders voted Tuesday to approve the deal to purchase all of Verizon's land line operations in West Virginia and 13 other states. Frontier also wants to increase the company's stock shares. The West Virginia Public Service Commission still has to approve the deal.

Earlier this month, the proposed sale of Verizon's land lines to Frontier Communications was criticized by Verizon employees who were concerned about their jobs once the purchase is finalized.

I too worked for Verizon. The writings on the wall for everyone to see. Frontier is a fairly solid company, but I can't see how it will stand up to the debt it's taking on from Verizon. In the end, it's all about Ivan Seidenberg making tons of cash for himself. I don't even see how this will help the shareholders and it will put many people out of work. It appears to me, at least, that it's going down the same road that Ruben H. Donnnelly (Yellow Pages) went to become Idearc= BANKKRUPTCY and New England landlines which became Fairpoint=BANKRUPTCY.

Just Say NO!!!! This sounds EXACTLY the same as SpinCo/Fairpoint merger 2 years ago. Promises are made and excuses follow after the sale is approved. I used to work for Verizon, now Fairpoint. Enough said. Verizon neglected lines for years, customers believed Fairpoint would upgrade and expand DSL to rural ME, VT, and NH. Jobs are being transferred out of New England to FL, SC, and CA. I have no doubt Frontier will do the same. All the info about this sale sounds just like the last. Complain to the PUC every time Verizon provides you bad service, don't complain to just neighbors and co-workers. They are a regulated utility and in the end it is cheaper for them to repair the line than to deal with the PUC. Ivan Seidenberg (Verizon CEO) had made over $200 million since 2002 in salary and stocks. He never has lost his job selling off Verizon in Hawaii, the Yellow Pages(Idearc now bankrupt), New England (Fairpoint in bankruptcy). I could go on and on and on......

I'm ashamed to say I worked for Verizon for over 34 yrs. This sale if it goes through will hurt all my fellow workers and families. I cannot see any good for any of the workers still with Verizon. Verizon is the only one that will gain. Except for the CEO everyone else will loose.

The business I work for had Frontier , the service was not dependable ,phones were out a lot. Repair and maintenance were almost non existent. Had to transfer to verizon , service and repair much better now.!! "

That's interesting, since Frontier and Verizon DON'T operate in the same areas. You're either in a Frontier area or a Verizon area. You can't "transfer" from one to the other.

Nice try.

I went with Suddenlink over Verizon. My experience so far with their cell phone service with their take over from Alltel was not a pleasant one. I know nothing of Frontier, have never heard of them. I have very pleased with Suddenlink. Just throwing them out there if they are in your area, they could be an option for phone, cable internet services.

I have Frontier service at home and Verizon service at work and I would choose Frontier any day. We're always having problems with Verizon and when you are lucky enough to get someone to come out to troubleshoot the problem, you're extremely lucky if they fix it. Also, my mother is a business owner and she recently went without business phone service for six days. Noone is perfect, but Verizon certainly leaves a lot of room for improvement!

I have had Frontier since Feb 09, because Verizon was not available in my area, and I have not had any trouble with my phone or internet service.

I currently have Frontier. I love the services that they provide and the customer service is better than Verizon's. They are always prompt when called and their rates are more respectable than Verizon's.

Thank you, loyal CWA followers. Frontier has been around for 75 years, already provides good service in West Virginia, and pushes broadband to the most rural parts of the state. Union folk neglect to point out that Frontier will be getting significantly more revenue from this deal; will be a stronger company financially from Day One, and will increase Internet availability in the state.

No chance of this "act" going threw. Frontier will be forced to take a 3.3 billion loss. Witch means there will be no funds for upgrades to an already out dated communications system. Wake up WEST VIRGINIA!

If this goes through kiss your phone service good-bye. Frontier does not have the resources to maintain service nor to improve what we arlready have. If you are unhappy with Verizon just wait until Frontier takes over.
