BECKLEY -- Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Southern West Virginia teamed up with City National Bank and Shred It to hold their second annual Free Community Shred Day.
It took place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday Oct. 28 at the City National branch on Park Avenue in Beckley.
Debra Lee with Consumer Credit Counseling said events like these raise awareness about Identity Theft. She went on to say that is why events like this one are so important.
"We get great feedback," said Lee. "People are very appreciative of having a free service. We do this annually down in Charleston and we're hoping to do this again next year in Beckley."
Each household was allowed to shred three boxes or five shopping bags of material during the event.
Lee said that more than $48 million are lost each year to identity theft.
