CHARLESTON -- Democratic Party leaders and members packed the Charleston Civic Center for Saturday’s dinner.
The highlight of the evening is the keynote speaker. In the past, speakers such as President Barack Obama, and former President Bill Clinton have taken the stage. Saturday's speaker was another nationally known democrat, Montana Governor Brian Switzer.
Switzer was flanked by Gov. Joe Manchin, Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., U.S. Rep. Nick Joe Rahall, D-W.Va. and U.S. Rep. Allan Mollohan, D-W.Va., at a pre-event news conference.
“I’m going to challenge the democrats of West Virginia to change the world,” said Switzer.
“It will be technologies developed right here in West Virginia that the whole world is waiting for the United States to take the lead on,” said Switzer, speaking about the new carbon capture plant in Mason County.
Nearly 1,000 tickets were sold an hour before the event and organizers were pleased with the event's turn out. |
