CRAB ORCHARD -- Police are searching for a suspect who they said attempted to kill a Sophia City police officer on Monday, Nov. 2.
Officers are looking for Herbert Wayne Doss, 35, of Crab Orchard.
Investigators said Doss led police on a pursuit starting on Route 16 in Crab Orchard. An officer was able to locate Doss on a dead end road where they said Doss attempted to run the officer over with his vehicle.
"The officer fired shots at the tires to attempt to stop Doss, but he continued to speed away nearly running the officer over," said Sgt. Mark Larkin, of the Sophia City Police. "Doss then sped off and tried to hit another police car head on."
Nobody was injured in the incident. Doss is facing several charges including attempted murder and fleeing from police.
"We have received a few tips on his whereabouts and we are actively investigating those leads," said Larkin. "Anybody with information please come forward. Contact Crime Stoppers because Mr. Doss has a history of violence, especially violence in particular against police officers."
Doss has brown hair, weighs about 200 pounds and is 5-foot, 10-inches tall.
