CHARLESTON -- West Virginia's highway maintenance budget will be cut before the end of this fiscal year due to decreasing road funds.
Transportation Secretary Paul Mattox said collections of gasoline taxes, registration fees and the privilege tax paid on vehicle purchases are way down. And, he doesn't see any relief in sight.
The $11 million shortfall, or 1 percent of the DOH budget, will mean cuts in the highway maintenance budget.
Resurfacing projects across the state will likely be affected beginning next spring. The cuts would not impact projects funded by the federal economic stimulus package.
