ATHENS -- Congressman Nick Rahall helps kick off a week of celebrations across southern West Virginia to honor our nation's veterans.
Concord University hosted a Veterans Appreciation Ceremony at its campus in Athens Monday afternoon.
Two new flag poles in front of Marsh Hall were officially dedicated as part of the ceremony.
Congressman Rahall served as the keynote speaker.
Concord University opened a veterans office earlier this year working to help vets, reservists and active duty personnel utilize benefits from the Post 9-11 GI Bill.
"First experience. Probably wasn't a very good student. I didn't have the discipline that I do now. Which I think has helped me out tremendously. A lot of classes that I've taken before I've taken again and I've had a lot better success," said Thomas Hilliker, army veteran.
Concord University is currently working with 90 veterans who are attending classes.
Congressman Rahall says Concord is one of the most veteran friendly campuses in the country.
