Mercer County has 95 registered sex offenders.

PRINCETON -- Several arrests are made after a sex offender compliance check in Mercer County.
West Virginia State Troopers and U.S. Marshal's spent Nov. 9 checking in with Mercer County's 95 sex offenders. Troopers said the goal was to make sure they are keeping up with the sex offender registry.
As a result, four people were arrested.
Sherri Stevenson, 33, of Bluefield, was arrested after troopers discovered a weapon in her home. She was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. Stevenson was registered as a sex offender after being convicted of third degree sexual assault and assault.
Louis Thurston, 62, of Matoaka, was arrested after troopers said they found a small arsenal of weapons in his home. He is charged with 10 counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Thurston was initially convicted of aggravated sexual battery.
Kenneth Joiner, 50, of Bluefield, was also arrested and charged with six counts of failure to register as a sex offender. He was initially convicted of rape of a minor.
While searching offenders home, Troopers discovered that Derek Hudson, 18, of Princeton had given some false information about who was staying in his home. He is charged with harboring a sex offender and has been released on bond.
More charges are pending.
