A dog park committee is now looking for land.

Story by Kate Krivanek

BECKLEY -- A proposal to build an off leash dog park in Raleigh County went before the County Commission on Tuesday, Nov. 17.

Chairman for the Bark Park committee, Marshall McKay, said the community appears to be supportive of giving dogs some room to play.

"Politics is behind it. We need land," said McKay. "The county suggested we talk to maybe some private industries and see if they have land. They didn't exactly say we don't have land, but they didn't volunteer a location."

The dog park is still just a proposal. Group members said they are looking to build in the Beckley area, but no sites have been identified.
