ANSTED --  The Southern Appalachian Labor School at the West Virginia University Institute of Technology in Montgomery is hosting two workshops on lead and mercury exposure.

Organizers said they planned the events just before the holiday season to raise awareness about exposure to the metals and recalled toys.

The workshops are scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 18. The first one is taking place at the Lodge and Conference Center at Hawk's Nest State Park in Ansted. It begins at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The second workshop will take place at the New River Health Center Robinson Annex in Whipple. It is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Both workshops are free to the public. The funding for the workshops comes from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
