BECKLEY -- From true stories to tall tales, the Tellabration in Beckley had it all. Locals relaxed at the Tamarack auditorium while storytellers entertained.
The stories were part of a worldwide event. Over 100 locations across the United States will hold similar events this weekend. In the past few years, it has branched out overseas, as well.
Danny McMillion, Director of Raleigh County Libraries, says it’s important to remember that stories are not only entertainment, but part of everyday life.
“Ask your mother for her favorite recipe, and I bet she’ll tell you a story of the first time she made it. Ask your grandpa how to plant corn, and you’ll get a story of how he learned to plant corn,” said McMillion.
Organizers added that this area was built on storytelling. McMillion points out that Appalachia history is traditionally told through stories like the ones told on Saturday.
