WEIRTON -- The No.1 ranked and unbeaten Madonna Blue Dons advanced to the Class A state championship game with an 18-7 win over No.5 Wheeling Central at Jimmy Carey Stadium.

It's Madonna's first win over Central since 1988.

Senior quarterback Max Nogay carried the ball 31 times for 133 yards and scored two touchdowns. He also tossed a 15-yard touchdown pass to Connor Arlia.

Central's lone score was a Zach Hood to Jordan Sorge 45-yard connection in the fourth quarter. The Knights lost star tailback Marcus Clifford with an ankle injury in the second quarter. He did not return and watched the second half on crutches from the sidelines.

Madonna (13-0) will face the winner of the Man-Richwood game, which will be played on Saturday, in the Class A State championship game. It'll be the Dons second straight appearance in the state championship game, where they lost to Williamstown.

Wheeling Central finished the season 9-4.

In New Martinsville, No.6 Bluefield upset No.2 Magnolia 13-10 at Alumni Field, handing the Blue Eagles their first loss of the season in the double A semifinals.

Big Blue held a slim 3-0 third quarter lead, when Marcus Patterson returned a punt 55 yards for a Beavers touchdown. Jake Lilly added a 30-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to make it 13-3.

Justin Fox tossed a touchdown pass to Jared Blatt late in the fourth to cut it to 13-10, but the Beavers recovered the onside kick and ran out the clock. Fox finished the game with 150 yards passing.

Magnolia running back Dillon Jackson was held to 36 yards rushing, and ends his career as Magnolia's all-time leading rusher with 2,234 yards. Classmate Stingray Bates had 46 yards on the ground, and finished his career second on the all-time rushing list, only 21 yards shy of Jackson.

Magnolia bowed out with a 12-1 record.

And in Canton, Cardinal Mooney ended Steubenville Big Red's season in the Division III state semifinals with a humbling 45-7 loss.

West Virginia University recruit Marcus Heard ran for over 300 yards and scored three touchdowns.

The lone Big Red scored was a Jesse Birden touchdown run in the first quarter.

Mooney will now play Columbus St.Frances DeSales in the state championship game next Friday at 11 a.m.

Steubenville's season came to an end with a 12-2 record. Big Red Head Coach Reno Saccoccia finished the season with 283 career wins, tying him with Monroe Central's Jay Circosta for the most wins in Ohio Valley Athletic Conference history.
