LEWISBURG -- Efforts to locate a plane that took off from Texas on Nov. 23 have come to an end.
According the West Virginia Civil Air Patrol, ground search crews located the plane Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 9:40 a.m.
The Piper PA-30 twin engine was located in a wooded area near Russellville in Greenbrier County. It was equipped with an Emergency Locator Transmitter. The crash site was confirmed at 1:37 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
The Pilot, Dr. Kwan Kwok took off from Dalhart, Texas, on his way to Virginia. He did not survive the crash. State Police said that Dr. Kwok was the only person on the plane.
According to web resources, Dr. Kwok worked for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.
First responders reported that materials, including identification and a laptop, found at the scene raised questions as to whether Kwok was carrying government documents. The FBI was dispatched to the crash site to assist with the investigation.
The West Virginia Wing of the Civil Air Patrol was alerted early Sunday morning that the aircraft was reported missing.
