BECKWITH -- Lacy's Lights is an annual display set up at the Fayette County Park.
The display dates back to 1967. It was started by a man named Lacy Smith from Pax. When Mr. Smith died, his wife continued the tradition, adding lights every year until she passed in 1997. When Ms. Smith passed away, her daughters gave the display to the Fayette County Park.
Thousands of lights are set up across the park, including cut out displays from popular movies and cartoon characters.
"It's just a fun thing for the family and the kids especially love it," said Peggy Bennett, the park secretary. "It is a great way for the legacy of the Smith family to live on."
Bennett said Lacy's Lights attracts thousands of people every year.
"Last year we had more than 12,000 people in one month. This year we have had about 5,000 people so far," said Bennett.
The display will be open every night until Dec. 30 from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. There are also free wagon rides through the park on Friday and Saturday nights.
