WHEELING -- Wheeling Park's Marqez O'Neal has been named the WTRF / Erb Electric / Bridgeport Equipment & Tool Athlete of the Week.

The 6-3 junior posted back-to-back career-highs with 20 points against Wheeling Central in an overtime win in the Cancer Research Classic at Wheeling Jesuit University.

One night later, O'Neal scored 17 of his game-high 29 points in a pivotal third quarter in a win over Morgantown.

"I've been working on my game, watching YouTube videos of Shaq and other big guys," said O'Neal.

And it must be working.

O'Neal is averaging 17 points per game and has extended his game to more than just the paint.

"He is getting out and running more and finishing fast breaks," said Head Coach Michael Jebbia.

O'Neal has benefitted from the play of junior point guard Bubby Goodwin, who looks for O'Neal on the wing and during run outs.

"Bubby and Richard (Hall) are good passers. I always have to be aware every time they have the ball because they usually find me," added O'Neal.

O'Neal and the Patriots are 5-0 and ranked No.3 in Class AAA, behind No.1 South Charlerson and No. 2 Logan.

Weather permitting, the Patriots will take on Brooke on Friday night, and 6-0 Preston County on Saturday afternoon.
