MORGANTOWN -- The WVU fans and the university had to rebound from the bad publicity they received last week, during the Pitt game.
"They threw stuff on the court three games in a row, hopefully, they won't make it a fourth," said Mountaineer fan, David Shrewsberry.
In an effort to stop fans from throwing stuff or yelling obscenities, the University beefed up police presence at Monday’s game. It also added security cameras and other measures like: text alerts.
"We've been focusing on sportsmanship, fan behavior for years. It's another step in that progression in ratcheting up those kinds of efforts," said Russ Sharp of WVU Security.
Behavior at the game was a step forward in the right direction for students, who say the student section was on its best behavior.
"It's not anywhere close to as it’s been before, definitely a lot better than before," said WVU Freshman, Galladu Subah.
"Hopefully, the crowd stays as it is, it's a good, positive attitude," said WVU Freshman, Josh Cody.
The Mountaineer Maniacs sent emails to students, threatening to reduce the size of the student section if fan behavior didn't improve.
Going forward, fans say positive fan behavior that was on display tonight can just as easily continue throughout the season.
"We can definitely handle doing this, it's not that big of a change for us to do this, it shouldn't be too hard to keep it going," said Subah.
