BRIDGEPORT -- Fans from all over North Central West Virginia turned out Sunday afternoon to welcome home the Big East Champion Mountaineer basketball team.
More than 100 people packed into the North Central West Virginia Airport terminal, in Bridgeport to greet the team's arrival, with even more fans outside the building.
The team's plane touched down just before 3:30 p.m.
In Morgantown, hundreds more fans converged on the WVU Coliseum to congratulate the team. Officials set up a podium so the players and Coach Bob Huggins could speak to the Mountaineer faithful.
WVU Forward John Flowers even performed a rendition of the Irish jig he made famous after the Notre Dame win.
The team's flight was scheduled to leave New York at noon, Sunday. That flight was delayed, but fans waited for hours in both Bridgeport and Morgantown for the team to return.
