GLEN MORGAN -- The search for the body of a missing firefighter from Kanawha County continued on Wednesday, March 17. The search for Donnie Adkins covers a 7 1/2- to 8-mile area around Glen Morgan. Adkins was attempting to rescue a stranded family early Saturday morning when his boat capsized.
Thirty swift water rescue team members are actively looking for Adkins, along with dogs brought in from around the state. Sterling Lewis, the West Virginia state fire marshal, said that emotions are running high among the searchers. "They're trained well, they know what they're supposed to do," said Lewis. "They know what they're job is, but they know that they're looking for one of their brothers and they have a drive that is unbelievable to bring this thing to a close."
Lewis said the focus is currently in a 3 1/2-mile area around where Adkins was last seen. Debris and steep drop offs are hindering the search, but saw teams have been called in to help cut up logs and other items hung up in the water.
