In an effort to step into someone else's shoes WVNS-TV's evening news anchor, Lauren Weppler, is performing various jobs around the community.

On Tuesday, Oct. 13, Weppler traded places with an activities director at Maples Assisted Living and Nursing Home.

The first task was to paint residents fingernails with nail polish. "Looks good, your nails look beautiful now," said Weppler to one of the residents.

After polishing nails, Weppler had to read the daily newspaper to a group of residents.
The residents wanted to hear the headlines of the day, obituaries, Dear Abby, the weather, and the horoscopes.

For Dreama Keaton, who Weppler traded position with for the day, the job isn't just about painting nails or reading the paper, it comes down to the personal connection.

"It's all about making a big family for them and close relationships. They feel like we are par of their family," said Keaton.

Keaton adds volunteers are welcome anytime at the Maples Assisted Living and Nursing Home just call and set up a day and time at 304-327-2485.

Weppler's next job will be as a Pee Wee football coach.
