Trading Places with a Salvation Army Bell Ringer

Posted: Updated:

The official holiday shopping season is just a few days away and many will be out hunting for the best deals, and greeting many of those shoppers will be Salvation Army bell ringers.

Salvation Army bell ringers help to raise 60 percent of the funds to help the organization give back to those in need all year around.

Lauren Weppler spent an afternoon bell ringing outside of the main entrance at the Crossroads Mall in Raleigh County.

Weppler had to first learn the rules when it came to volunteering as a bell ringer.

Robert Barber with the Raleigh County Salvation Army assisted Weppler with the criteria. Barber advised her to smile, greet and remember to never touch the monetary donation. "Just the people put it into your kettle. There is no need to touch it," said Barber.

The giving of those in Raleigh County and all across the state of West Virginia is evident for Barber, "I've never seen anywhere on Earth where people care about each other as they do here in West Virginia."

Have an job for Weppler to try and complete for the holiday season? Just send her a message.
