Curry named Conference-USA defensive player of the year

Marshall senior defensive end Vinny Curry was named the 2011 Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year. The news came in an announcement Wednesday by the league office and later by CBSSports.com.

The New Jersey native was also a captain this season, was also honored Wednesday by CBSSports.com with second-team All-America honors.

This season alone, Curry ranks second nationally 21.5 tackles for loss, tied for second with six forced fumbles and is tied for fifth with 11.0 sacks this season.

The senior earned National Defensive Player of the Week honors after the win over Rice, and National Defensive Lineman honors after the win against Southern Miss.

The 6-4 first-team All-C-USA selection has also been invited to the 2011 Senior Bowl.
