Bluefield is getting it done on and off the court. The Beavers are 5-0 in the gym, and Friday helped out the community at the annual Community Christmas Tree held at the Bluefield Recreation Center. The event was sponsored by the Bluefield Daily Telegraph, which helped raise more than $30,000 to make this year's event a success. Bags of toys, food and clothing were given to kids of all ages, ranging from newborns to 11 and 12-year olds.
Charlie Cole, who's been volunteering at the event for 20 years, said there were 755 bags given out to children. While families were waiting, there was live entertainment. Beaver basketball coach Buster Large said athletes from other sports at the high school also helped out with the event.
