Elevation Sports is raising the bar when it comes to filling the need of Southern West Virginia's sports enthusiasts. Customers come in look for everything from wearing the right gear to having the most up to date equipment and gadgets.

Lauren Weppler spent the afternoon trading places at the store. Her first task was to learn how to grip a skateboard, which is done about three times a day.

Adam Hitchcock, 14, was teaching Weppler how put together a skateboard and also how to put spark plugs into a high powered remote control car.

For Elevation Sports owner Mark Hitchcock, who is Adam's dad, owning the business is not just a learning experience for him but also his four children.  "I raised them when they were little now were doing this together as well. Learning the business and I think they see the value of working every day and getting up and getting after it."

Mark and Adam showed Weppler how to wax a set of skis.  They first showed her how to apply the way and melt it onto the ski, then to scrap off the excess and buff the bottom of the ski making it smooth.

Elevation Sports in Beckley is offering a five week ski pass at Winterplace including rentals, lift tickets and a 90 minute lesson. They also offer discount tickets at Snowshoe.
