You may want to put in a few extra hours at the gym this week, because Girl Scout cookies go on sale Friday.
Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council, which serves 61 counties in West Virginia, Ohio, Virginia and Maryland, will be starting to take orders this week. They'll also be planning booth sales to make sure the cookies are available to all that crave the once-a-year favorites.
This year's new cookie, "Savannah Smiles," is a cool and crisp lemon wedge cookie. It's name reflects the home of Girl Scout Founder Juliette Gordon Low. The new cookie will celebrate the l00th anniversary of Girl Scouting.
Beginning this Friday, everyone's favorite Girl Scout cookies will be available through May. The most popular Girl Scout cookie in West Virginia is the "Samoa," followed by the "Thin Mint" variety. Each box sells for $3.50. To purchase cookies or to find a Girl Scout cookie booth sale in your area, visit the Girl Scouts of Black Diamond website at www.bdgsc.org, or call the Cookie Hotline at 1-800-756-7616.
In addition to some of the proceeds going toward the development of the local Girl Scout program, each participating troop benefits from the proceeds of the sale and uses them for a variety of troop activities. The Girl Scout Cookie program allows girls to implement business skills, such as product management, product distribution, budgeting and money management, advertising and sales.
