DeAndre Kane nailed two free throws with 14 seconds left to lift Marshall over UCF 65-64 in Huntington.
The Golden Knights took a 64-63 lead with 49 seconds left after a tip-in. After losing the lead, they had one last chance with seconds remaining but missed.
The game featured 13 lead changes and was a big win for the team for another reason. Current UCF coach Donnie Jones was previously at Marshall.
Kane was the only Herd player to score in double-figures, with 16. Dennis Tinnon snared 10 rebounds.
Marshall is now in first place in C-USA with a 4-0 mark. The Herd is 13-4 overall. Next up for Marshall is a contest in Charleston against WVU on Wednesday, January 18.
