
Sunday, Jan. 28 is the fifth anniversary of the explosion at the BP Gas Station in Ghent that claimed the lives of four people and injured five others.
A memorial will be held starting at 10 a.m. in Sophia that will include a procession of fire departments, emergency responders and law enforcement officers. It will head toward Independence High School. An honor guard from the Beckley Fire Department will stand in mute salute to the fallen.
The theme for the memorial will be "Lest We Forget!" U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall (D-W.Va) and a representative of U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) will be there.
Another memorial is not planned until the 10th anniversary of the explosion in 2017.
