WV Teachers Team with NASA for Research

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has named two West Virginia teachers to participate in research flights.

Sarah Scoles of the National Radio Astronomy Observatory and Anne Smith of Green Bank Middle School will participate in t he Airborne Astronomy Ambassadors program.

According to NASA, 26 educators will team up with astronomers aboard a modified jet that is equipped with a 100-inch telescope.  The observatory allows for the analysis of infrared light to study the solar system, including the formation of stars and planets.

The observatory is based in Palmdale, Calif. and is a joint program between NASA and the German Aerospace Center.
