Bluefield College students are on a mission to help provide new shoes to underprivileged kids who need them. Students will come together to decorate TOMS Shoes for needy kids during a "Style Your Sole" party.
A ‘Style Your Sole' party is where people come together to be creative and to decorate TOMS shoes for children in need," said Jeremy Hardy, BC's director of student activities. "We encourage the community to join us. It should be a fun and rewarding event."
TOMS Shoes launched its ministry in 2006 when American traveler Blake Mycoskie befriended children in Argentina and discovered they had no shoes to protect their feet. Wanting to help, he created TOMS Shoes as a company that would match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need.
Since then, TOMS has given more than one million pairs of new shoes to children in need around the world, thanks to the generosity of customers.
Bluefield College students will add to that number with their "Style Your Soul" party on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m. Local residents are invited to join the cause inside the school's Student Activities Center in Shott Hall.
People interested in participating, should order a pair of plain white canvas TOMS shoes in advance by contacting Hardy by e-mail at jhardy@bluefield.edu or by phone at 276-326-4256, or by visiting the TOMS Shoes web site at www.toms.com.
