BECKLEY -

Former state legislator Sally Susman announced Friday that she will has filed to run for another term on the Raleigh County Board of Education.

Susman, a former Raleigh County BoE member and delegate of the 27th legislative district, previously served on the House Education and Finance Committees. In a press release delivered Friday, she expressed her commitment to high educational standards.

"The future of our county, state and country," said Susman, "depends on a high-quality education system. My commitment to education and the future is evidenced by my past service on the local and state levels."

Susman's announcement follows an announcement made Thursday by current BoE member Jack "Gordie" Roop that he does not plan to seek reelection. According to a report from the Beckley Register-Herald, incumbent board member Richard Snuffer was the only other person who had filed as of Thursday night.

The last day to file for the election is Saturday.
