Chief John Casey has submitted Chris White for a Commendation of Bravery after he rescued a man from a burning home on Friday, Feb. 3. White was responding to a brush fire in the Bent Mountain area. While on the way he noticed the column of smoke turn from white to black indicating the fire had spread to structure.
When White arrived on the scene, Casey said that White went into the burning building looking the homeowner, who had left a utility vehicle running outside. White found the man inside with a possible broken hip and carried the man to safety.
Casey said that if White had not helped the homeowner, the man could have suffered additional injuries from the fire.
Casey hopes to present the award to White sometime next week.
